Cheryl Matheis

Senior Vice President for Health Strategy
AARP
Cheryl Matheis is Senior Vice President for Health Strategy in AARP’s Office of Social Impact. Her department oversees all of AARP’s initiatives in health and long-term care. She directs AARP’s Health Reform Campaign and previously led AARP’s Medicare Part D Education and Implementation effort.
From 1999 to 2004 Ms. Matheis was AARP’s Director of State Affairs, overseeing a national office which guided the governmental advocacy of AARP’s 53 state and territorial offices.
Ms. Matheis has also served as a member of AARP’s federal health lobbying team. Before coming to AARP, she was a practicing attorney focusing on health care issues. She received a BA from Manhattanville College and a law degree from Catholic University, where she was a member of the law review. She has often represented AARP in the media, including appearances on all major television networks.
