Fred Hagigi

Fred Hagigi is the Director of the Executive Education Programs in Healthcare Management & Policy (EMPH), and Professor of Health Services. He also chairs the UCLA Healthcare Collaborative (HCC), a joint community-education program of UCLA’s Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Management, and Public Health, which seeks to advance healthcare leadership through education and exchange
Trained as an Industrial Engineer, Dr. Hagigi received advanced degrees in Finance, and in Healthcare Management & Policy. He has organized and operated numerous multi-specialty medical groups and Independent Physicians Associations, many of which serve underserved communities. He also served with the VA system as a consultant, trainer, and academic expert.
He is recipient of several teaching awards, including the UCLA Senate Distinguished Teaching Award- 2007. Dr. Hagigi is a member of the Upsilon Phi Delta Honorary Society in Healthcare Management as well as the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health.
Dr. Hagigi serves as a consultant and evaluator of safety-net providers, and has worked with various health ministries, academic institutions, and NGOs throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
His current projects include design and implementation of Emergency Medical Systems in Developing Countries, with a pilot in Nairobi. In addition, as a consultant to the Management Development Institute at UCLA’s Anderson School (funded by Johnson & Johnson), he teaches financial management to managers of NGOs in Africa to build their capacity in addressing HIV/AIDS.
