The Wellness Institute of Neuro Development
Dr. Carmen Baez Franceschi earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Puerto Rico, magna cum laude (Biology concentration), in 1990. During her undergraduate years, Dr. Baez Franceschi demonstrated she was passionate about research for which she received national recognition by obtaining grants from the National Science Foundation, National Institute of Health and MBRS.
She received her doctorate degree with honors from the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Science Campus in 1994. During these years, she was part of the Student Counsel, created and directed an Environmental Awareness Association, newspaper and organized an environmental awareness week that is still celebrated.
In medical school, Dr. Baez Franceschi discovered she loved to treat children and decided to complete a specialty in Pediatrics. She moved to Florida, USA and completed residency in All Children’s Hospital, St. Petersburg, FL. She earned her certification by the American Board of Pediatrics in 1997. After completing her training, she became a faculty member of the Suncoast Hospital in Clearwater, FL. She helped develop the Department of Pediatrics. In these years she was a CMS physician and worked with a population of children with severe chronic conditions. During this period, she became very frustrated with the limited programs available to treat children with developmental problems. Never would have thought that this experience would plant the seed that would evolve into new developments and be the center of her future professional life.
Dr. Baez Franceschi completed a Masters in Business Administration from University of South Florida, FL, in 2001.In 1999, she returned to Puerto Rico. Upon her return, she developed the Department of Pediatrics in a new multi-specialty clinic. She also became part of the Board of Directors in 2002. In 2003 she received the title of associate professor at the University of Puerto Rico and has been training pediatric residents since then. In 2005, following her desire to develop a center for treating children with developmental/neurological conditions, she opened a private practice that evolved into what is now Star Kids Club, a multidisciplinary clinic to treat children with developmental problems.
Dr. Baez Franceschi had been doing research for a long time, so that, when the center opened she could be prepared to offer unique treatments.
