Jennifer Ives is a seasoned business leader with more than 20 years of experience in tech startups and global companies, as well as local government and business development organizations. She started as an engineer for a geospatial software firm, and has focused most of her career on economic and business development, strategic growth, and talent recruitment, retention and development.
A self-described “data geek” and host of the fast growing “Talent is Transforming” podcast series aimed at providing leading-edge people and talent-related insights to executives around the world, Jennifer is currently focused on providing business leaders with tools to assess their organization’s culture and talent so they can ultimately grow their organizations. Jennifer has been particularly focused on expanding Top Employers’ proprietary survey and certification program to the North America market and providing executives with objective feedback about their HR policies and programs, actionable recommendations to develop talent and drive business performance, brand awareness among leading global employers, and the ability to earn recognition as a “Top Employer” certified company.
As an expert in business and workforce development, Jennifer says, “One of the most important ingredients to launching and growing a business into a global player is being able to recruit and retain, as well as develop the top talent and expertise. Employers today are grappling with everything from managing multi generations to the best tools and technology to excite employees about their professional development.”
Jennifer is particularly focused on how relevant data can lead to important decision making: “Having data can put information into the hands of executives and allow them to look quite factually at what they’re doing well and identify opportunities for growth to drive financial performance.”
Prior to joining Top Employers Institute, Jennifer worked as the head of strategic growth at LiveSafe, a tech startup that developed an enterprise-class mobile safety communications platform. She also spent more than five years as director of business investment for Arlington County Economic Development, where she was responsible for recruiting new companies to Arlington and working with other Washington, D.C. area communities to successfully create a vibrant regional economic ecosystem.
She has co-launched a number of organizations focused on helping tech startups go from idea to business, including TandemNSI, VentureCamp and Startup Virginia, part of the Startup America family. At TandemNSI, an organization helping tech startups connect their products to federal agencies focused on national security, she guided strategy and lead all innovation and strategic partnership activities and is still an advisor for the organization.
Jennifer has degrees from the University of Virginia and George Mason University. She and her husband have two children and live in Arlington, Va.
