Karen has a B.A. from the University of Oregon, and 16 years management experience in Human Resources. She has been certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) since 2008, a Certified HealthCare Reform Specialist (CHRS) since 2013, and recently became a SHRM Certified Professional (SHRMCP). Currently, Karen is the Director of Human Resources for Florida Institute of Technology, one of the premier private research institutes in the nation. Times Higher Education ranks Florida Tech as one of the top 20 World Universities, including other schools such as CalTech and the Paris based Ecole Normale Superieure. Karen is the Vice Chair of the Human Resources Advisory Council for ICUBA- Independent College and University Benefits Association- a MEWA headquartered in Orlando, FL. She also serves as a member of the South Brevard Society for Human Resources.
In her spare time, she is an avid runner, working on her MBA in Finance and Accounting, married to her high school sweetheart and raising two girls, age 6 and 11. Prior positions include Director of Human Resources for AirScan, a defense aerospace company, Employee Relations Manager for Coca-Cola Enterprises, and Human Resources Manager for Sara Lee Bakery.
Karen has received high praise for her management and communication style. Her generalist background combined with her Certified Healthcare Reform Specialist designation has led her to be one of the premier mentors in healthcare reform in her industry. The Vice President for Student Affairs at Florida Tech recently stated she was the “best HR Director he has seen in over 33 years.”
