Mr. Larry C. Baker Estrada graduated from San Diego State University with Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish. Subsequently, Mr. Baker completed a Master’s degree in International Management at Thunderbird, The Garvin School of International Management in Glendale, AZ. While at Thunderbird; Mr. Baker’s primary interest was in International Marketing as it relates to Latin America. Furthermore, he developed a good understanding of the Mexican consumer due to the fact that he has lived in Guadalajara, Monterrey and in Mexicali, Mexico and his mother is of Mexican decent. Also while living in Monterrey Mexico, he had the opportunity to participate in an exchange program between Monterrey Technical Institute (ITESM) in their MBA program and Thunderbird. He worked with AT&T (Alestra) in Monterrey as an account executive in the Sales Department. His sales territory consisted of Northern Mexican states of Nuevo Leon, Coahuila, Chihuahua and Sonora where he sold telecom services such as private lines, packet switching, frame relay and ISDN to name a few. Furthermore, he developed a training manual (in Spanish), which was used to train AT&T’s distributors in Mexico. After returning to the United States, Mr. Baker worked as the Regional Sales Manager, Latin America, for Microcom Technologies (formerly a division of Advanced Semiconductor Inc.) located in the Los Angeles area. His sales territory included Mexico, Central and South America as well as the Caribbean and he developed and managed distributor networks throughout the region. Later, Mr. Baker worked as the Regional Sales Manager in Mexico, for D-Link Corporation. D-Link is a leader in the field of networking products (E.g. modems, routers, LAN switching equipment layer 2 &3, VPN/Firewalls, IP Cameras, VOIP and IPBX products and multimedia products.) He was tasked with the responsibility was to establish the sales and marketing activities for D-Link in Mexico. To this end, he identified and setup the channel sales (Wholesalers and VARs) as well as creating a national marketing campaign that was implemented throughout the Mexican media.
Presently, Mr. Baker has been working as the Director of the International Patient Program at UC San Diego Health System. UC San Diego has a world-class hospital system and he has been working to promote both it as well as the San Diego region as a destination for medical tourism. Mr. Baker and his team have established business development managers in Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and the Caribbean and are working to bring international patients to San Diego.
Mr. Baker is fluent in both English and Spanish and has a conversational knowledge of Portuguese. He also is frequently sought out as a consultant for individuals and companies that wish to establish themselves in Mexico and Latin America and has done consulting work for some notable institutions such as CINTAS Corporation, the Mexican National Chamber of Commerce (CANACINTRA) and the US Small Business Administration (SBA) at one of their Small Business Development Centers in El Centro, CA as the Director of the center.
